History of this temple
Raja Gola Singh constructed the Mansa Devi Temple between 1811 and 1815. One of the four locations where a few nectar drops accidently fell during the churning of the water is this temple. At this location, the Mata temple was later constructed. In the temple, there are two Mother Goddess idols. He has three faces and five arms on one statue. It has eight arms on the other. Mother is perched atop a serpent and a lotus.
This is religious importance
The Skanda Purana also makes reference to the temple. Mansa Devi is regarded as the tenth goddess in this. It is said that the gods were once vanquished by a demon by the name of Mahisasura. The gods then thought of the goddess.
When the goddess showed up, she vanquished Mahishasura the demon. In response, the Gods prostrated themselves before the Goddess and said, "O Goddess, just as you fulfilled our wishes, similarly in Kaliyuga also fulfill the wishes of the devotees and remove their problems."
It is supposed that the goddess took a nap on this rock not far from the main summit of Haridwar's Shivalik garlands. Mansa Devi Temple was built here as a result. It is thought that this is where Mansa Devi's idol was first installed. Later, a temple was constructed here, and Maa Mansa Devi's idol is still on display there now.
